Changelog for Splash version 2

2.13.1 (not released yet)

Bug fix for narrow, dashed lines when saving as PDF (from 3.05.4)

2.13.0

Shows licence name in license screen.

Displays info for upgrade to v3 correctly

2.12.8

Fix for rare bug when starting a simple text shape then immediately changing the text alignment before typing anything.

Fix for bug when pressing Tab, while also moving an arc within the blank number-line using the mouse.

Fix for rare bug when exporting user. and a file had just been saved into their menu

2.12.5

Modified number line, so that changing colour via the fill palette now changes either the positive (green) or negative (red) colour depending on the state of the number line.  And the same colour will then be used for all new number lines until the software is closed.

2.12.4

Added number palette with degree symbol to graphing activity (both junior and senior)

Bug fix for possible error drawing overlapping pie charts with snap-to-shape on

2.12.3

Bug fix: Splash could crash if certain settings were used if the display style of the toolbar buttons was changed in the user settings.

2.12.2

Bug fix for display of numbers tool cell containing 3 digits, which was broken in 2.12.1

2.12.1

Change to numbers tool to allow preceding 1 to be added if there are 2 digits in the cell.

Fixed bug in polygon shape that could create an error if the number of sides was reduced while drawing a new shape and then the baseline was immediately cancelled with a right-click.

Bug fix: when adding an entire folder to the student's menu, the message "No files found" could be displayed even though some files were in fact added.

Fixed application icon which was missing in a recent build

Changed default fill colour for Senior geometric drawing to transparent - this was the default for recent versions, but older versions may not have been updated correctly during upgrade.

2.11.8

Modified angular label so that it can be moved in combination with other shapes

2.11.7

Minor changes to advanced settings editing.  This will not affect most users

2.11.5

Added option to change indicator colour in protractor and ruler (previously red)

2.11.4

Fixed error report which was failing sometimes

Fixed recording of palette positions for teacher mode: sometimes the location of palettes weren't recorded when closing the work screen and they would revert to their previous location when it was opened again.  User mode was largely unaffected.

2.11.3

Added line style palette to equations (senior)

Update to error reporting URL

Bug fix for pie chart: if the user clicked again on the last point to start a new slice (not necessary as it starts automatically), hard-to-delete lines could be left behind

Reduced default line width for secondary simple equations activity

2.11.2

Added move tool to senior graph drawing activity

Added line style palette to senior simple equations activity (mainly intended for use with imported PDFs)

2.11.1

Added alternate Numbers palette with degree symbol.

Added a "symbols for pointer" palette which can be used in equations and includes basic numbers and symbols so that an on-screen keyboard is not always required.

Neither palette is shown by default but can be enabled in the settings.

Changed default for geometric drawing so that shapes are not filled initially.

2.10.5

Fix to custom palette shapes which should maintain the colours and style they were designed with - simple shapes were sometimes changing fill colour to match the current selection when placed.

2.10.4

Fix to display of prefix "1"s in Numbers tool - noticeable only if the grid size is less than about 7mm

2.10.3

(Not released)

Change to ruler positioning only if eye-gaze is selected.

Set minimum width of division in equation: so when it is first drawn it has a sensible horizontal bar (previously started about 1mm long until something was typed above or below it)

2.10.2

Minor changes to mm and cm buttons if added to the toolbar so the appearance is more intuitive.

2.10.1

Corrected the #phi and #psi symbols in the equation editor.

Minor bug fix: in numbers tool, if auto move was on, typing a number after a decimal using the popup palette repositioned the mouse pointer (reposition is not supposed to happen when using the pointer to type in the palette)

If numbers palette is docked, then it will always be expanded when it appears automatically in response to the user selecting the numbers tool (previously it remembered the collapsed/expanded state like other palettes).  The same applies to all palettes that can be displayed automatically.

2.10.0

Bug fix: selecting an area of text using shift-cursors was not rendering the highlight if the shape was newly added to the page.

Bug fix: numbers tool didn't allow typing a decimal point in a cell that was empty but had borders set (it is not supposed to accept decimals in non-empty cells)

Bug fix for minor, rare issue when undoing deletion of an numbers tool item

2.09.0

'T' Text tool: improved response if clicking to put cursor in a new location before typing anything

Groups of shapes including Number tool items can be resized as a group (previously inhibited as Number tool not resizable)

Bug fix: rainbox colour option was sometimes repeating the first colour

In the secondary maths, geometric drawing and graph activities the default paper/grid has been changed to squared.

Added numbers tool and colour fill tool to secondary geometry and graphs activities.

Added option to reset an activity settings to default (in advanced configuration).

For eye gaze users the ruler does not extend anything like so far past the point being measured to (to reduce the appearance of it flickering around the screen as the eye point wanders)

2.08.6

(Not released)

Export-to-PDF function is now available in user mode if added to toolbars or similar (previously it was restricted to Teacher mode)

2.08.5

Improvement to positioning when copying and pasting an entire graph between pages with grid snap on

Added support for modified installations where Splash stores its data in a different location (for network installations where the default location may not be available, or may be restricted).

Eye gaze option in access wizard enabled - it had accidentally been left disabled.  This option also modified to remove some more buttons to make space.

Updated Dutch language files.

The text in the accessibility wizard has been modified and simplified, but the functionality is unchanged.

2.07.8

Minor changes to numbers tool: when selecting carry function using popup palette for pointer users, the mouse cursor is no longer repositioned.  The delete key (and red X button on palette) can delete a decimal between cells if the current cell is empty.  Previously only backspace did this.

2 display options added to Clock to show minutes instead of hours, OR minutes on outside of face in addition to hours inside.

2.07.6

Bug fix: in equation tool, the #codes were not working after pressing Enter to start a new equation/line

Bug fix in simple worksheet wizard, sometimes crashing after clicking blank tools panel to open wizard and then clicking next

2.07.4

Slight changes to the use of control key to resize container shapes (containers are used only in certain advanced areas, such as custom palettes)

Bug fix: there was previously a crash in the simple text tool if backspace was used to delete all the text, and then the Home key was immediately pressed.

Bug fix: the "make custom worksheet" was usually skipping over step 3 (protection options). Now fixed.

Bug fix: clicking and dragging in an equation while the equation tool is selected correctly selects a range of text.  Previously it only worked correctly if the F9/pointer tool was selected

Bug fix for axis tool: if the values ran from positive to negative AND finished on a value which was a digit longer than any preceding value, that last value was not displayed correctly.

Better error handling if a corrupt Splash document is double-clicked in Windws to open Splash.

2.07.2

(Beta only - not released)

Minor fix: if the Home button was clicked with the actual mouse (not emulated) to return to the menu, and another activity selected, then in the work screen the cursor keys were not functioning to move the pointer until the user clicked (with the mouse or space)

Bug fix for Export-to-PDF for Splash documents containing certain classes of black and white images produced by scanners.

2.07.1

(This version wasn't generally released)

Main software includes Dutch language version.

Speech has been changed to use a more recent Windows speech system.  If speech is used it may be necessary to re-select the voice and check the settings.

Bug fix: if an infinite line shape was drawn which intersected with a flood fill shape (which hadn't been moved and was still dynamically filling) then the software crashed due to an error in the infinite line pathing analysis.

Protractor can now be moved without rotation after placing using the F9 pointer tool

2.07.0

Fix for number line on pages with a very small grid size (<5 mm) which wasn't displaying correctly

Better error handling when a totally corrupt document file is opened (or a document that isn't actually a Splash document).  Likewise when an invalid/corrupt PDF document is imported through the worksheet wizard

Fix for printing or exporting to PDF a splash document with numerous high resolution background images (higher resolution than created by Splash's PDF import).  This was previously running out of memory eventually.

Bug fix when printing "current page" - this was previously usually printing from the current page to the end

Improvement when printing splash documents with pages nominally larger than the printer paper (eg printing an A3 page on an A4 printer) - the page will automatically be shrunk to fit the printer

Bug fix in our translation tools

(Support for new update-check responses)

2.06.6

Bug fix under recent versions of Windows 10 only: when in the Worksheets section of a user menu, with the editing slider open, the option to change the page from a default one to a custom one wasn't visible - which made it impossible to edit these pages.  This only affects up-to-date Win 10 machines, and appears to have been caused by a change in Windows

Bug fix for very rare issue when toggling advanced mode in config screen when editing document settings - wrong item could become visible in page menu.

Bug fix: if using the "Save into user's menu" item on the file menu, Splash would crash if the filename entered included a backslash character

Possible bug fix for error from one bug report using flood fill on a pixel based image. (We couldn't reproduce the crash)

Change to memory management of large background images for pages so that Splash can cope with more pages with high resolution images without exceeding Window's image buffer limits

Some additions to the events recorded and included in error reports.

2.06.3

For new users when the software is first used, some extra prompts are displayed, explaining the parts of the software

When a new user profile is added, the accessibility wizard is automatically run

The handling of default styles stored for a user or document have been refined.  In particular this affects user defaults: these were previously overwritten by defaults we set for certain activities.  Now each individual value tracks whether it is changed or not, allowing only actual changes to be applied.  There was also a bug with storing the font in these defaults.

Tally tool: option added to switch off align-to-grid with this tool (it usually aligns with an imaginary grid regardless of the main snapping option and whether there is a grid or not).  Default for worksheets created from an scan or PDF is off - so tallies can be placed freely, unless the main snap-to-grid is selected.

Modification to the numbers tool: it now permits crossing out (decomposition) in the cell following a decimal point, when the option to place decimals on the dividing line between 2 cells is on.

Bug fix for error when text alignment changed on multiple shapes including an equation.

Bug fix: in Swedish the Swedish names for the images and folders for the full Inclusive image library weren't loading, and the English names were being used instead.

Bug fix for possible error when selecting Number Arc Line while typing cursor is currently in a simple text shape.

Bug fix in Numbers tool: ":" button wasn't typing the character into the page.

Error reports contain some extra information about recent actions (eg menus or tools selected).  We had a few error reports that we were not able to reproduce.

Bug fix for error on top level menu page when adding a new user profile immediately (ie without navigating off that page) after adding a licence which included new user levels

Bug fix: tally tool couldn't be moved after it was placed.

Possible fixes for errors which occurred once (and couldn't be reproduced by us):

- Error when finishing moving a palette

- Error when typing into text-at-an-angle

2.05.2

A fix to the colour of the text in the equation editor (bug in version 2.04)

ABC writing tool now writes between grid lines on gridded paper rather than on the grid lines

Number line: bug fix for spoken count if speech enabled, start point non-zero, and "speech counts how far current user has counted from start point" option is enabled

Number line now supports decimals (the option to enable this in an individual number line is in the advanced tab of the properties for the line)

Added < > x symbols to palette in equation editor (all versions)

Changed default for Secondary Maths activity to snap-to-grid (was snap-off)

Fix in Swedish only for the bottom right button in the pop-up button pad for pointer users using the numbers tool (button was previously ignored in Swedish)

2.04.0

Bug fix to occasional crash using up/down arrows in summation/product/integral lower/upper limit areas if it was the first item in the equation.

Bug fix for occasional crash in simple worksheet wizard (when Next clicked if ruler tool was added)

Bug fix which occured when using the Eraser with pixel based graphics and then saving the document (eg Crayon)
